My Jodi. My Jodi. My Jodi and Me.

Two_times_the_ugly

For her 5th birthday, Jodi received a handmade "Just Like Me" doll and a warning:

Look, kid, we can stitch up a big boned replacement for you anytime we like.  Do you want this doll to sleep in your Holly Hobby bed and eat your pudding pops while you waste away in a smelly orphanage run by some bargain Mrs. Hannigan knockoff?  Yeah, we didn't think so. Then we all agree.  The poopie pants problem and the booger eating stop NOW.  And no more licking the cat either.

*Small* Needlework Gifts?!?

Posted by: yagowe | Oct 4, 2005 3:20:47 AM

Indeed, the big book of SMALL needlework gifts.

Posted by: filambulle | Oct 4, 2005 5:17:50 AM

That has got to be one of the ugliest dolls I've ever seen. And, the kid looks like she feels the same way. Looks like she's going to vomit.

Posted by: Annie | Oct 4, 2005 8:16:42 AM

Reminds me of the clown from "Poltergiest"
Could you imagin finding that thing under you bed on a dark stormy night?

Posted by: Donna | Oct 4, 2005 8:24:11 AM

The only thing uglier than the doll is the dress it's wearing. Whew.

Posted by: Marcia | Oct 4, 2005 8:56:31 AM

"If I hug it from back here, I can satisfy the mean photographer without actually having to look at its face...."

Posted by: Elaine | Oct 4, 2005 10:40:38 AM

The doll is a small needlework gift, it just so happens the girl is the size of a Borrower.

Posted by: LJ | Oct 4, 2005 11:14:53 AM

"No more licking the cat either" I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants!!!

Posted by: toiletpaper | Oct 4, 2005 12:26:22 PM

I'm so blind, I thought that poor child only had one leg.

Posted by: Shannon | Oct 4, 2005 12:57:06 PM

Shannon, you're not alone--I keep thinking the child's left leg is an amputated stump, but it's actually Scary Doll's arm. Also, why is Scary Doll wearing a men's bathrobe?

Posted by: Queenie | Oct 4, 2005 1:33:35 PM

Jodi and scary doll can share clothes! Such fun. Jodi can't wait to wear that plaid garment with the unfortunate ribbed neck and wrist bands. The plaid pattern so artfully placed on the dress makes even a small needlecraft doll look huge. Jodi will look like an elephant -- and is that not the end goal of most home-sewn clothing?

Posted by: RST | Oct 4, 2005 1:49:33 PM

This looks like one of those frightening pegasus-type halloween costumes where the feet belong to the kid but the rest of it is costume... but the arm/leg stump has me cringing.

Posted by: beastarzmom | Oct 4, 2005 2:26:58 PM

Toooooo tacky. Mooooooore funny. Please no not the Jodi doll!!! ROTFLMAO!!!

Posted by: Morgan Farmer | Oct 4, 2005 2:52:13 PM

You know what would look great on that doll? An orange playsuit/blouse/leotard/onesie with a big macrame pod-person necklace. I mean, with all the beautiful dress patterns in the world, why wear a frumpy old bathrobe?

Good thing I don't have Photoshop.

Posted by: Julie | Oct 4, 2005 4:21:05 PM

Oh, thanks Julie. Now I'm gonna be up all night seeing that doll in an orange velour 'everything' with a macrame squid around it's neck.

Posted by: Marcia | Oct 4, 2005 4:46:11 PM

It looks like they had to drug little Jodi for this photo shoot. How else could they get ANY child to pose with that hideous creation?

Posted by: Mainer | Oct 4, 2005 5:20:19 PM

I feel sorry for poor Jodie with that awful looking doll behind her attempting to strangle her. Jodie has enough problems with the world, what with the fire leaving her with stumps for arms and horrible facial deformities. Why did they pose that doll behind her....oh....oh, I see...once again, I'm having those problems dealing with the razor thin line between reality and fantasy.

Posted by: Kathryn | Oct 4, 2005 6:11:34 PM

Wow -- the detail. Scary doll has articulated thumbs. No fingers, but she does have thumbs. And her ankles look very realistically bloated. Major water retention above those mary janes.

Posted by: RST | Oct 4, 2005 6:34:04 PM

Ok, ok- I actully HAD one of those dolls. My sister (who is 10 years older than me) made it for my birthday. I used to practice kissing on it. Later it looked like I beat the crap out of her (lipstick marks look like bruises on felt).

Posted by: Krista | Oct 4, 2005 9:11:31 PM

It could be worse--Jodi and Dolly could have been wearing identical outfits. Best Friends Forever outfits.

Posted by: Mary | Oct 4, 2005 9:26:29 PM

jodi is the name of the doll, people. stay in touch with tv commercials please.

Posted by: tictic | Oct 5, 2005 7:20:35 AM

No, Jodi is the name of the dazed and, confused little girl.

Posted by: | Oct 5, 2005 4:43:17 PM

Can't sleep big doll will eat me, can't sleep big doll will eat me...

Posted by: Mindy | Oct 5, 2005 7:49:19 PM

I'm confused - I thought Jodi was a boy, the little-boy half of the kids from "Family Affair" - Buffy and Jodi! Looks to me like he's hanging on to a substitute since Buffy had her Mrs. Beasley doll. Or do I have the wrong 60's sitcom? Mr. French, help!

Posted by: Carlarose | Oct 5, 2005 8:01:27 PM

i still say jodi is the name of the doll.

Posted by: tictic | Oct 6, 2005 7:26:44 AM

Maybe the doll has one of those big zips down the back, and what we're seeing is the child emerging from the bizarre cocoon that her parents make her sleep in. Hence the bed-head. And the thousand yard stare.

Posted by: Chris | Oct 6, 2005 6:43:06 PM

The more I look at that kid, the more it looks like a midget Leo Sayer.
Now I've got "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" stuck in my head!

Posted by: LJ | Oct 7, 2005 2:29:18 PM

"OK, stand back! Here's the deal - staying up till 11pm, no school and pizza and ice-cream everyday, otherwise the needlework doll gets it."

Posted by: Stuart | Oct 8, 2005 12:37:33 PM

I wish I could find that old book!

Jodi looks so sad because she got a "just like me doll" for her birthday, I thought the child was a boy at first.

My son-in-law would pick his nose and p his pants if I made my grandson a doll like that; Thank heavens i have a Granddaughter to sew for.!

Posted by: justdiddlen2ebay | Oct 11, 2005 11:39:22 AM

Clearly lame because she spells her name with an "i".

Posted by: Jody | Nov 2, 2005 9:07:20 PM

Is it just me or is this "little kid" really a midget?

Posted by: | Dec 2, 2005 5:01:22 PM

Jodi is the name of both the doll and the little girl holding it.

Posted by: Jodi | Apr 13, 2006 4:40:58 AM

Posted by: shar | Jun 2, 2006 11:10:25 PM
